My Story
Who hasn’t struggled with feeling their best, whatever that means? How do you know which diet to follow, which are the good or bad foods that you should enjoy or avoid. And how much can you eat while still being healthy? There is so much information out there that it can be really overwhelming trying to figure out the best way to eat. I have fallen into some pretty bizarre and unhealthy ways of eating and living from time to time so I know how frustrating it can be. Like the time in my early twenties when I cut out all salt from my diet because I thought that a low sodium (or zero sodium diet in my case) was ‘healthy’. Turns out our bodies need at least some sodium to function optimally. It didn’t matter to me that I ate very little processed food, when I thought that all salt was bad I did everything I could limit the amount of salt was in anything I ate. Turns out that having a healthy amount of salt in what you eat makes things taste better, who knew? Over the years I have come to learn what works for my body and what doesn’t. Sometimes is an easier switch to make, like when I cut out most processed sugar for a time and then couldn’t stop crying after eating jello at a wedding (yeah, really embarrassing….). Or when I realized that my body does not do well when I’ve eaten anything with wheat or gluten in it (thank you very much genes). But some things about food will change from season to season for me. I’m constantly learning how to be more flexible with the things I eat and they way I eat them (except for the celiac and sob-inducing sugar loaded desserts). Food can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. How can I help you to make eating a more simple and enjoyable thing that you do instead of something that causes you stress?
When I’m not health coaching or trying to learn more ways to live that are healthier for both us and the environment I am working in the film and theatre industries as a costumer. I have been passionate about being a part of the creative process that brings stories and characters to life since I was in high school. You can find me working in the costume shop of many plays and film projects through out the year in Vancouver, BC. Sit me in front of a sewing machine and you will make me a very happy person!
More recently I have become a mom and when I am not chasing my son around (how do they learn to move so fast?!) I am trying to keep practicing the art of taking care of myself. This has changed so completely for me since having a baby. It is nowhere near perfect but I strive to take care of myself so that I can show up for my family and be able to support them in all areas of their lives.
I am passionate about supporting and encouraging people as they make small, steady, and sustainable changes to their everyday lives to bring in healthier ways of living. From working one on one with clients, to teaching to groups of people I want to help you make the changes that you want to make. I will never tell you what diet you need to be on because I believe that diets are ultimately designed to fail and make you feel like you have done something wrong. My philosophy is to make living healthier, whatever that means to you, simple, straight forward, and accessible to everyone. Keep it simple. It can be that easy.
